I Bleed Red

I have accepted a position at the University of Utah as an Academic Advisor for the College of Health! I am very excited to be a part of one of the top research schools in the nation but also to be a part of the largest College and Department on campus.

I will be working in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science which has 4 undergraduate programs and 5 graduate programs.  The Department has over 1,300 students and expects a growth of 15% in Fall semester.

This is a big step in my career and education.  I will have the opportunity to enroll in one of their 95 graduate programs as well as have the opportunity to be a part of many student's lives.  I will be helping to develop new programs within the Department, share knowledge of Health within the community, work with student athletes, and prepare students for medical school. I find enjoyment in knowing that I can make a difference and to be able to help guide other student's to success in their own education and future careers.

This will also be a chance for me to change my personal health habits, gain a stronger knowledge of health and exercise, as well as help with my life long struggle with weight.

Now I just need to wait until June 1st for the first day!

Rome Temple

I am so excited for the groundbreaking of the Rome, Italy temple! This is very dear to my heart because my great grandfather, Phillipe Cardon was the first mormon baptized in Italy by President Lorenzo Snow. When I visited Italy a couple years ago, I visited the Piedmont Valley where in a very small city called Prarastino, I was able to see the house that my ancestors lived in. There are still many Cardon's that live in Prarastino, Piedmont, Italy and I can only hope that I can go back to Italy and spend time with my distant cousins and aunts and uncles.

President Monson says, "The ancient apostles Peter and Paul were missionaries here," he said. "Approximately 1,800 years later, in June of 1850, (Mormon apostle) Elder Lorenzo Snow and two companions, Elder Stenhouse and Elder Toronto, traveled to the valleys of the Piedmont Mountains in northeast Italy, where they began missionary efforts in this dispensation."

When I read this my heart was so full knowing that he spoke of my great grandfather and his beautiful family that sacrificed so much so that I, generations later, can have the gospel in my life. It is because of Grandpa Phillipe that my family is a part of this great plan of happiness.

After Phillipe and the majority of his family were baptized, they left their vineyard, family, and home to make the trek to Utah. Once in Utah they settled in Ogden, Utah (of all places where I currently live). This didn't last long though, they were asked to make the trek to Juarez, Mexico to spread the gospel. My brother, Steven, just returned from his mission 6 months ago from Tuscon, Arizona where he served in Pima, Arizona and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Phillipe's wife, Marthe (my gradma), is buried in Pima, Arizona and our distant relatives live in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Grandpa Phillipe is buried in Juarez, Mexico.

It is amazing to me that my brother was called by inspiration to an area where my ancestors lived and were buried.

Goodbye Summer

Now that my summer is officially coming to an end, here are some photos from what I have been up to. WARNING: There are a lot of pictures!
Freshman Orientations, 9 total this Summer

360 Students, 9 Orientations, 1 sigh of relief

I was able to catch up with this fine lady, Laura.
We thought this was funny! But we're a bit weird and proud of it.

The gardens at the temple were amazing and in full bloom!

Delila likes to bury herself when she sleeps and she sometimes looks like a little old beggar lady.

She likes to pull all of her toys out of her carrying bag and then play with only one of them!
My parents like to pretend she is their grandchild, until an actual grandchild comes. She loves to cuddle up and take naps with people.

Island Park, Idaho/Wyoming

This is only 1/4 away from my Uncle and Aunt's cabin.

9,000 ft overlooking West Yellowstone
My Uncle Brian and I found a geocache!
My dad and cousin Jake "checking" on his plane and helicopter that he is developing with a company in China and with the Army.

As a family we like to shoot at each other and see who survives, its a great bonding moment...paintballing!

Brady was in charge of catching the airplane or helicopter but they kept faking him out.

Jackie hunting down a target.

My dirty mug!

August 23rd Fall semester begins at Weber State, August 24th I start my first Master's degree course and will turn in my application for acceptance to the Masters of Education on October 1st, wish me good luck!

Forgiveness: My Burden Was Made Light

Forgiveness: My Burden Was Made Light

"I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me,
Confused at the grace that so fully he proffers me.
I tremble to know that for me he was crucified,
That for me, a sinner, he suffered, he bled and died."

What We See

Is it surprising that today in our society we see women sufferring from body image misconceptions, bulimia, anorexia, low self esteem, and much more?!

Tonight at Institute we studied President Monson's May 2010 Conference talk titled "Preparations Bring Blessings". It is a great talk, it may not specifically talk about self esteem but when our Institute teacher asked us why as women we expect these standards, my good friend Erin said, "Why do men?".

What touched me in President Monson's talk when he stated this, "The Apostle Paul declared: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? … The temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” As women, we are temple's of God and we must believe in our selves and know how much we are worth. No matter what we look like, how short, tall, skinny, curvaceous, freckly, or what not....we are all daughters of God and hold a high place along His side.

Women's Conference

I am finally doing something for myself!  I am so excited to attend Women's Conference, for the first time ever, on Thursday and Friday.  I am going with my grandma, aunts, a couple cousins, and possibly my sister.
